You can buy a software only version of TomTom3. It won't be the same thing
as you would get in the bundle. But then TomTom5 is coming out in a couple
of months so you wouldn't want that anyway.

Hi Mark, I'm curious to what would be different from the software if it came
in a bundle or not!

I believe TomTom are giving free upgrades from TT 3 to TT 5 so what benefit
would the OP gain if they were to wait?

The software supplied with the HP Navigation pack is in affect "TomTom 4"
although they didn't call it that outside of the program itself.
It's the first release of the 'common platform' software on the pocket PC.
American users had this as "TomTom Navigator 2004", essentially it is
TomTom3 with a lot of the features missing! TomTom5 corrects that situation
and has all of the features of TomTom3 plus more. Therefore I would suggest
getting TomTom5 and not the navigation pack as the software is not up to
scratch.

TomTom are *not* giving free upgrades from TT3 to TT5. Having said that it's
possible if you buy TT3 now the upgrade may well be free, but don't count on
that.

The version sold by TomTom that is bundled with the rz1710 is a HP Specific
version not available seperately. However V5 will be available very soon
and you can buy this in a software only package.

I reccomend you wait for that as everyone will be upgrading to V5 anyway.
Otherwise buy TTN3 now and upgrade when V5 is released.

Darren,
When TomTom3 was released they offered a free upgrade if TomTom2 had been
bought after a certain date (sometime in January 2004 as I recall?), do you
know if this will be the case with the TomTom5 upgrade?

The whole upgrade process is still a little unclear. At worst, users will
have to pay 49 Euros for the upgrade which will include the entire Euro
mapset so it is a very generous offer. Even were it just the latest UK Map
plus TTN5 application, £35 is a pretty reasonable sum.

As for who if any are entitled to a free upgrade, we are still seeking
clarification and will of course update our site when this has been
received.

Well., I've had my TT3 for eight months and by the time TT5 is released no
doubt, I'll have to pay. OTOH, £35 for seems a great offer if you include
the maps.

Cheers

£35 is a fantastic offer! My order will be in the second TomTom announces
it! Even the maps alone are worth far more than that.

Yeah it certainly sounds a good offer. Anyone know if the maps will be
updated as I gather they were the same when TomTom went from version 2 to 3!

The maps were not the same between version 2 and 3. And yes, the maps will
be updated.
