Problem with downloading maps from IGN (France)
(too old to reply)

Hi all,

should this be the wrong group for my question, I apologise. I didn't
find an answer somewhere else.

I bought some 1:25000 maps in IGN's online-shop (www.ign.fr) and
received the following mail from them:

"Your data are now ready.
You can download them at the following link :
http:///maps.georando.fr/download.php?file=20080906_163503_xxxxxxxx"
"

When I enter this URL into my browser, nothing happens, no download
starts. This is true for Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 2.0.0.5.

Deactivating the firewall doesn't help.

Activating JavaScript and cookies doesn't help.

Removing on of the three /// characters after http... doesn't help.

Appending ".DLZ" to the file name doesn't help.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem? IGN doesn't answer my
mail:-(

Any help appreciated.

Kind regards,
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

sorry I can't help you but, at least, the ign people should help you.

May I ask you another question related to the French Georando maps:

On the IGN website, it is said that they show all GR hiking paths.
This would not help me much. Do you know whether the local paths are
also shown, I mean all paths as indicated on the paper maps from Club
Vosgien for example, together with the path signs?

Thanks -

Yes, they should... Abwarten und Tee drinken... Fortunately their maps
are far better than their customer service.

So far I don't know IGN's digital maps, but I assume they are
identical to the printed 1:25000 maps. A few weeks ago we were hiking
to the Rocher de Mutzig (a marvellous region!) and relied on the
printed map. It really shows everything you can imagine, including all
path signs and even the smallest paths without signs. Excellent
material! The Géorando Libertè software is fun, too. Unfortunately
without the 1:25000 maps it's quite useless to me.

Regards,
Wolfgang

This is the solution. From IGN I received the following advice:

<quote>
"If the dowloading link you recieved looks like:
http:///maps.georando.fr/download.php?file=....
You have to erase a / and replace the word "maps" by "download".
</quote>

It's that simple, isn't it...

Shaking my head,
Wolfgang
